Wolfgang Van Halen has recently recalled his final moments with his father, Eddie Van Halen.
“I was at a movie. I got a call from my dad when I was in the movie. I got a voicemail, but I didn’t understand it. He was unlike himself,” the 33-year-old singer said on the episode of Behind the Music dropped on Paramount+ on May 2, 2024.
He further shared, “I immediately called Al [Alex Van Halen] and he tells me that Dad fell off his bike while they were driving and they’re at a hospital at Agora Hills. Something was wrong with his brain.”
“He couldn’t get through a sentence because something was wrong with his brain. He had a brain tumor,” the Panama hitmaker continued. “It’s not easy to see someone you look up to as a pillar of strength — and have to be that pillar of strength yourself.”
Wolfgang added that one day, he woke up to a doctor’s call that said, “You should get over here.”
“I held my dad’s hand. I held it up to my face until he left. I felt the warmth of his hand on my face until I couldn’t feel him anymore,” said the musician with tears in his eyes.
“The last thing he ever said to me was ‘I love you,'” recalled Wolfgang.
