Vanessa Williams has announced the passing of her mother, Helen Williams, who died on December 28 in London at the age of 85.

Helen passed away at The London Clinic due to complications from acute liver failure while visiting the city to see Vanessa perform in the musical adaptation of The Devil Wears Prada and celebrate her 85th birthday.

In a heartfelt Instagram tribute, Vanessa described her mother as a “powerhouse, dynamo, and force of nature packed into a 5ft frame.”

In regards to this, she shared, “Our mom, Helen Williams, aka Gaga to many, took her final bow in London 20 days after celebrating her 85th birthday surrounded by family and friends.”

According to Daily Mail, Helen’s life was marked by a distinguished career as a teacher and college professor until her retirement in 1996.

Known for her resilience and wisdom, she often encouraged her students with advice like, “Work the best you can and don’t let anyone tell you that you cannot do something, ever!”

Moreover, a devoted grandmother and passionate traveler, Helen was remembered as a loyal friend and a “shopping devotee.”

Additionally, she was the mother of Vanessa and her brother Christopher, and the wife of Milton, who passed away in 2006 after 45 years of marriage.

It is worth mentioning that Helen’s family has planned intimate private memorial services in January and has requested donations to the Helen Tinch Williams Vocal Performance Fund in her memory.

Furthermore, Vanessa is currently starring as Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada musical on the West End.
