‘The Friends’ star raves about strong bond with costar
David Schwimmer gushes about ‘Friends’ co-star Matt LeBlanc as he recalls an anecdote
Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer have been co-stars in Friends as the latter reflected on his bond with his on-screen neighbour Joey Tribbiani.
The 58-year-old told EW that though he usually does not talk to his fellow actor for months, yet it did not impact his friendship with him.
The funny exchange of text messages was one example the Madagascar actor shared that kept their bond strong despite living miles apart.
“LeBlanc and I are pretty close, even though I live in New York and he’s in L.A.”
However, one text from Matt caught David, who played Ross Geller in the hit sitcom, by surprise.
“What’s fun is we’ve got the kind of friendship where we may not talk for months, but out of nowhere, he’ll send me a message with a clip from the show — which, it’s always funny to relive something we shot, what, 25 years ago or more?” the Tangled actor noted.
“So he sent me something a couple of days ago that totally surprised me,” he said of Matt. “I genuinely forgot what we’ve shot, but it’s a moment where he just rips my shirt off.”
The Friends had a long-lasting impact on its audience; as David shared in an interview on Good Morning America, “it’s kind of the gift that keeps on giving. When I meet people on the street from another country and they say, ‘I just have to say, I learned English watching your show.'”
“Or a father stops me and says, ‘My kid was really, really ill and the one thing that kept them going in the hospital was just watching Friends,’ you feel really grateful and blessed to have done something that people find fun,” David concluded.
