Ahead of the season two release, Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk teased that fans would see familiar faces from season one.

During an interview with People, the director said, “There are characters that appear in season one that make yet another appearance in season two, so it’d be really fun to check them out.”

“You’ll be surprised to see them again in the second season, [Park] Jung-bae [Lee Seo-hwan] being the biggest role of that case,” the 53-year-old added. “So that’s going to be a fun thing to look out for.”

Besides this, Hwang also shared the “biggest differences” between the two seasons.

“In season one, it was a rather linear telling of a narrative of the story of Gi-hun who takes part in Squid Game and his story about how does he survive, what does he go through, and what does he experience?”

Earlier, Hwang Dong-hyuk reflected on working on Squid Game, which made him “so tired” that he wanted to “go to a remote island with no calls from Netflix.”

“I had no intention of doing a second season because the overall process of writing, producing and directing the series was so challenging,” he told Variety.

“I didn’t think to do another one.” However, he went on to work on season two. “I’m so exhausted. I’m so tired. In a way, I have to say, I’m so sick of Squid Game.”

“I’m just thinking about going to some remote island and having my own free time without any phone calls from Netflix. … Not the Squid Game island,” he concluded.
