On Tuesday, 11th February 2020, there was held Sweden’s Polar Music Prize award show in which American famed songwriter Diane Warren and Russian star Soprano Anna Netrebko jointly received an award.
The noble honorees will receive the award including one million kronor (95,000 euros, $103,000) each, at a ceremony in Stockholm on June 9 attended by King Carl XVI Gustaf.
48-year-old Netrebko is known for her exceptional style and is a master of both the Bel Canto and Russian styles as well as big dramatic roles like Tosca in Puccini’s classic opera.
During a speech, she stated that when she got on stage, something happens and the quality of the performance increase 10 times better, as she has a voice that tells her what to do. It’s always been with her.
Whereas, the 63-year-old songwriter Diane Warren who has given many hit song lyrics, and nominated 11 times for an Oscar. Moreover, she wrote amazing lyrics for artists including Mary J. Blige, Justin Bieber, Whitney Houston, and Celine Dion.
Warren stated in her speech while receiving an award, she stated that she doesn’t have confidence in herself as a human being, but she has confidence in her music. When she knows something is right, and when she knows a song is right for somebody, she believes which is amazing.
Sweden’s Polar Music Prize was founded in 1989 by the late Stig Anderson, who was also a manager of Swedish popstars ABBA and chooses two or three honorees each year.
The award aims to focus on the ‘breakdown the musical boundaries and limitations by bringing together a diverse range of people from the different world of music.
However, some of the past winners including Ravi Shankar, Dizzy Gillespie, Pierre Boulez, Bob Dylan, Grandmaster Flash, Metallica, and the Afghan National Institute of Music, Sting.
