Sony Pictures drops major trailer of ‘Karate Kid: Legends’ while featuring Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan
Sony Pictures Entertainment revealed the official trailer for Karate Kid: Legends on Tuesday, reigniting the beloved martial arts franchise with the return of Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan.
The two stars reprise their iconic roles as Daniel LaRusso and Mr. Han, respectively, teaming up to train a new karate prodigy, Li Fong, played by newcomer Ben Wang.
According to Daily Mail, the action-packed trailer began with Jackie Chan’s Mr. Han leading a karate class in a serene Chinese garden surrounded by skyscrapers.
Among the students is Li Fong, a young martial artist uprooted from Beijing to New York City, where he struggles to fit in and faces school bullies.
When Li befriends a girl in need of help, he decides to enter a high-stakes karate competition, setting the stage for the ultimate showdown.
While seeking guidance for his gifted student, Mr. Han travels to Los Angeles to find Daniel LaRusso, portrayed by Macchio, now running the iconic Miyagi-do Dojo.
Moreover, the trailer teases a heartfelt connection between the two mentors, with Han telling Daniel, “Li means to me what you meant to Sensei Miyagi.”
Together, the two martial arts masters merge their fighting styles to teach Li a new way to approach his challenge.
In regards to this, the trailer echoed, “Two branches, one tree,” emphasizing the film’s themes of mentorship, resilience, and unity.
Additionally, the star-studded cast includes Ming-Na Wen as Li Fong’s mother, alongside Joshua Jackson and Sadie Stanley in supporting roles.
Wang, chosen after a global talent search led by Chan and Macchio, brings extensive martial arts expertise in disciplines like karate, kung fu, and taekwondo, as well as a personal connection to the Asian American experience.
Furthermore, Karate Kid: Legends is directed by Jonathan Entwistle and is set to premiere in theatres on May 30, 2025.
