Robyn Brown opens up about emotional toll of legal marriage to Kody Brown
‘The Sister Wives’ speak out about Kody Brown’s favoritism and Meri Brown’s divorce decision
Kody Brown’s only remaining wife, Robyn Brown, recently opened up about why she “never even wanted to be legally married” to him.
In the Sunday, December 29 episode of Sister Wives, Robyn said she had always wished to have a “big, happy, polygamous family,” but her legal marriage to Kody was not “always part of that plan.”
Other than Robyn, Kody’s ex-wives Meri Brown, Janelle Brown, and Christine Brown talked about Meri and shared that she decided to divorce Kody so he “could legally marry Robyn.”
However, Kody quipped that he “never felt like that legal divorce did anything to us.”
Looking at the cameras, he shared, “Meri volunteered it, but for some reason, it still had an emotional impact on her because shortly after was when she went through the catfish experience.”
On the other hand, Meri, in a separate confession, stated that legally divorcing Kody was what she “needed to do.”
She then remembered that her ex-husband was “really kind” and “present in our relationship for, you know, a month or so” after that, but things eventually faded.
Meri added that the catfishing incident happened several months later.
Moreover, the 55-year-old Janelle mentioned that “the legal marriage really seemed very important to Meri.”
She also highlighted that she didn’t think it was Meri’s idea to legally divorce Kody, saying, “I was actually sort of speechless when she told us that she was actually doing it, because I thought Meri would never do this.”
“I already had started to see that there was a little bit of favouritism for Robyn from Kody at that point, and I did worry,” Janelle remarked.
Christine also remembered that when Robyn first joined the family, she “talked about other families” where the first wife divorced the husband so he could “legally marry the second wife and adopt the kids.”
Christine said Robyn brought this up to “plant” the idea in the family’s minds, mentioning it “several times through the years. I don’t think Meri felt like it was planted. I think Meri felt like it was her own idea.”
However, Robyn denied the claim that she “planted an idea in Meri’s head,” calling it “an absolute lie.”
“I never said it. I don’t even know anyone who divorced their first wife so that the second wife could adopt kids. Meri told me when she made the offer that when we were getting to know each other, she had had the idea in her head to offer to give me the legal marriage so that Kody could adopt my kids,” she concluded.
