Riz Ahmed becomes first British-Pakistani Muslim Actor to Win an Oscar Award, ‘The Long Goodbye’
Riz Ahmed becomes the first British-Pakistani Muslim actor to win an Oscar Award for his Live Short Film, ‘The Long Goodbye.’
The British Pakistani actor, musician, and activist took home the Oscar alongside director Aneil Karia. Riz Ahmed co-wrote the short film and also starred in it.
On winning this huge achievement, and while receiving Ahmed’s first-ever Academy Award, he said, “This is for everyone who feels like they’re stuck in No Man’s Land,”
“You’re not alone. We’ll meet you there.”
Last year, Riz Ahmed was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor in Leading Role for his role as a punk-metal drummer in Sound of Metal. The film was also nominated for Best Picture.
The music for the film has been taken from Ahmed’s album of the same name, which was released in 2021, and reflects on his identity as a British Pakistani artist.
