Richard Gere is certain of his love for Italy.

The actor, 75, made an appearance on an Italian chat show Che tempo che fa in Milan on Sunday night, during which the conversation turned to his love for Italy as he promoted his latest film Oh, Canada.

“I love Italy, if I could I would be Italian,” he said on the show.

“I grew up in a small town in upstate New York, the only cool kids were Italians, very elegant, wonderful shoes, they had this way of moving…” the award-winning actor explained.

He continued, “We all wanted to be Italian!”

The recent statement follows his announcement that he would be relocating to Spain with his wife, Alejandra Silva, 41, and family after years of living in the United States.

“My wife is Spanish. Is this a problem for anybody out there?” the actor joked a couple of weeks ago in an episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon as she shared the major move.

He also shared his motivation behind relocating with his family.

“But my wife is Spanish, and she gave me about seven years here, so we’re going to spend some years in Madrid. Our kids are bilingual so they’re going to flourish there,” he continued.
