Robert Zemeckris’ highly anticipated film Here has generated buzz for reuniting the director with Forest Gump stars Tom Hanks and Robin Wright.

However, its use of AI-driven digital de-aging technology has sparked criticism, with actress Lisa Kudrow calling it “an endorsement for AI.”

According to Deadline, while appearing on the Armchair Expert podcast, Kudrow shared her concerns about the implications of such technology, particularly in light of recent SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, which highlighted the need to regulate AI in the entertainment industry.

In regards to this, Kudrow explained, “They shot it, and they could actually shoot the scene and then look at the playback of them as younger, and it’s ready for them to see. All I got from that was, this is an endorsement for AI. Forget actors—what about up-and-coming actors? They’ll just be licensing and recycling.”

Moreover, Kudrow also raised broader concerns about the future of work in an AI-dominated world.

In this regard, she asked, “What work will there be for human beings? Then what? There’ll be some kind of living stipend for people, and you won’t have to work? How can that possibly be enough?”

Additionally, the debate around AI in Hollywood has gained momentum, with Tom Hanks also addressing its potential.

While speaking on The Adam Buxton Podcast, Hanks said, “Anybody can now recreate themselves at any age … I could be hit by a bus tomorrow, and my performances could go on and on.”

As per the publication, he warned that outside of AI disclaimers, audiences might struggle to distinguish between real and AI-generated performances.
