Keanu Reeves reveals if ‘John Wick’ will get a fifth sequel
Keanu Reeves discusses the fate of ‘John Wick 5’ ahead of ‘From the World of John Wick: Ballerina’ release
Keanu Reeves doesn’t see a fifth instalment of John Wick on the cards.
The actor, 60, was promoting his voice role of villain Shadow in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 amid a recent appearance on CBS Mornings, during which he also answered some burning questions about a possible John Wick 5 in the making.
“You can never say never but my knees right now are saying, ‘You can’t do another John Wick,'” said Reeves, who makes a cameo in the upcoming spinoff film From the World of John Wick: Ballerina his with his popular assassin character.
He added, “So my heart [wants to], but I don’t know if my knees can do it,” to which Sonic the Hedgehog 3 director Jeff Fowler had a hilarious comeback.
“Which is why you can voice Shadow for, like, decades to come — there are no physical limitations, just your voice!” joked Fowler. Reeves then quipped, “I’m free!”
It is pertinent to mention that Reeves is seen as irreplaceable in John Wick, particularly by co-directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch who believe the thriller franchise owes its success to the Canadian actor.
“Could you have done John Wick without Keanu?” Stahelski, 56, raised the question in an interview with People Magazine before quickly answering it himself. “No, not the way you see it,” he stated.
“The stoicism that John Wick shows is really a big part of who Keanu is,” he continued. “You gotta see Keanu on set. I know everyone hears the stories, but he is always there early. He is always the first one there [and] the last one to leave.”
“There really is no other person that could play John Wick,” added Leitch, 49. “He brings, obviously, the passion, the physicality, and there’s just this undeniable emotional quality to him, where you feel for him and he pulls at your heartstrings.”
From the World of John Wick: Ballerina hits theaters on June 6.
