Jay-Z’s legal team seeks dismissal of child assault case: Report
Jay-Z’s lawyer reportedy seeks dismissal of sexual assault lawsuit filed by Jane Doe while citing ‘expired deadlines’
Jay-Z’s attorney, Alex Spiro, has requested the dismissal of a sexual assault lawsuit filed earlier this month, citing expired deadlines, jurisdictional issues, and inconsistencies in the accuser’s claims.
According to Daily Mail, the plaintiff identified as Jane Doe, alleges that Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs sexually assaulted her at an MTV Music Awards afterparty in September 2000 when she was 13.
In regards to this, Spiro argued that the legal statute under which the case was filed did not exist at the time of the alleged incident and cannot be applied retroactively.
Moreover, he also questioned the timeline and location of the claims, stating that the travel details contradict the case’s jurisdiction, as per the publication.
Additionally, Spiro pointed out discrepancies in Jane Doe’s story, including her claim of watching the VMAs on a jumbotron outside the venue, despite evidence showing no such setup existed.
Meanwhile, Tony Buzbee, representing the plaintiff, dismissed Spiro’s arguments as technicalities and asserted that the law supports the victim, as per the outlet.
The lawsuit came amid ongoing allegations against Combs, who is also facing multiple lawsuits and criminal charges for sexual misconduct and trafficking.
Furthermore, Judge Analisa Torres has allowed Jane Doe to proceed anonymously for now, while criticizing Spiro’s aggressive legal tactics and inflammatory filings as wasteful judicial resources.
It is worth mentioning that Jay-Z has denied the allegations and accused Buzbee of using the lawsuit as a publicity stunt, as per Daily Mail’s claims.
