Jason Kelce given instructions on curse words ahead of his new late night show
‘They Call It Late Night with Jason Kelce’ premiered on ESPN on Saturday, January 4
Jason Kelce’s first-ever late-night talk show came with some guidelines as a host.
The former NFL player answered some burning questions with the press following the live filming of the episode on Friday before They Call It Late Night with Jason Kelce debuted on ESPN a day later.
The former Philadelphia Eagles center revealed that the network gave him a hall pass on language but only asked him to be “cautious” about one thing—dropping F-bombs during his show.
“I’m still waiting to see what the response is, to be honest with you,” Kelce said of the first episode, which was heavy on the salty language. “It is a late-night show. We’ll see how that works the next morning whenever it airs.”
After taping the premiere episode with guests like like fellow late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, Inside the NBA host Charles Barkley and musician Lil Dicky, Kelce admitted that he may have overdone it with the expletives. However, he insisted that he had a good reason for doing so as such shows demand one’s “authentic” self.
“We really wanted the language to be real and authentic to me,” he explained. “We overdid it a little bit today, to kind of prep the audience on what to expect.”
“I think the F-bombs were the one thing that I was told, you might want to be a little bit cautious there,” Kelce continued. “But we want to give you range to be who you are, so we knew that we were exploring territory where language would be kind of permitted.”
“I think that will probably naturally scale back significantly in the next show,” he added, referring to his language.
