Jamie Lee Curtis reveals shocking reason for ‘Freaky Friday’ sequel delay
Jamie Lee Curtis drops the bombshell on why ‘Freaky Friday’ fans waited decades for the sequel
Jamie Lee Curtis has finally shared the real reason why fans had to wait 22 years for the highly anticipated Freaky Friday sequel.
The 66-year-old actress appeared on the TODAY show on Thursday, December 12, where she promoted other films, including The Sticky and The Last Showgirl, and explained why Freakier Friday took so long.
Curtis said, “We couldn’t have made this movie until now, because Lindsay [Lohan] had to be old enough to have a 15-year-old.”
The True Lies actress further quipped, “She has a 15-year-old, so I’m now a grandma.”
Notably, in Freakier Friday, the 38-year-old Lohan is playing the role of Anna Coleman, a mother to her own daughter and soon-to-be stepdaughter.
Moving forward, Curtis teased that the movie would be “nostalgic,” as the long-time Freaky Friday fans wanted to see in the sequel.
“And it checks every box that you would want. It has the nostalgia of the original movie with Pink Slip and Chad Michael Murray,” she revealed, referring to Murray’s character Jake, Anna’s crush, in the 2003 movie.
“Boy, do women love Chad Michael Murray! And it has some new elements with it,” Curtis concluded by saying.
It is pertinent to mention that the sequel to Freaky Friday, called Freakier Friday, will come out in August 2025, 22 years after the first movie.
