Is Apple planning to launch large, foldable iPad by 2028?
Innovative device will resemble “a giant iPad that unfolds into the size of two iPads Pros side-by-side”
Apple Inc is reportedly working on a large, foldable iPad, with plans to launch it around 2028, as the company explores advancements in foldable technology already adopted by Android devices.
According to a recent report by Bloomberg, this innovative device will resemble “a giant iPad that unfolds into the size of two iPads Pros side-by-side”.
In the report, Mark Gurman, a Bloomberg chief correspondent and analyst, noted that the phone manufacturing giant has been refining this product concept for several years and aims to address the crease issue in current foldable devices.
According to Gurman, the tech company has made strides in this area, with prototypes featuring a “nearly invisible crease”. However, it’s unclear whether Apple can eliminate the crease entirely.
“Apple knows that customers — gamers, software developers, or just people watching movies — want the biggest screen possible,” wrote Gurman.
“And the only way to sensibly ship a mobile product with a large display (one approaching 20 inches or so) is to make it foldable. Otherwise, it’s too hard to throw into a purse or backpack.”
Previously, in February, reports suggested that Apple was developing two foldable iPhones.
In January 2023, it was reported that Apple was developing a foldable iPhone for a potential launch in 2024 and, as far back as May 2021, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted that Apple would develop a foldable iPhone with an eight-inch screen for shipping in 2023.
Unfortunately, none of the previous predictions have come true but, whether Gurman is right or not with this latest prediction, only time will tell.
