Goodwill Ambassador Mahira Khan meets UN Secretary General

One of the most acclaimed celebrities of Pakistan, Mahira Khan, who is not just a film star, yet also a Goodwill Ambassador of ‘United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees’ (UNHCR). She was selected for Pakistan as a representative in November 2019. Mahira Khan worked as a volunteer for the purpose of raising awareness about the plight of refugees. Recently, Pakistan’s first UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Mahira Khan met UN Secretary-General António Guterres during his Pakistan trip.

UN chief is in Pakistan on a four-day official trip. On Monday, 17th February 2020, António Guterres conducted a meeting with the UN Refugee Agency Officials and Mahira Khan.

To celebrate 40 years of hosting Afghan refugees in Pakistan, there was a Refugee Summit held in Islamabad. While addressing the Summit, UN Secretary-General, António Guterres said that the world must take measures and deliver for Afghan refugees.

On the behalf of UNHCR, the actress, Mahira Khan had volunteered camping for raising awareness about the plight of refugees in Karachi and Peshawar.

In December 2019, UNHCR video was featured in which Mahira along with other Goodwill Ambassadors were highlighted who took part to raise awareness about the plight of refugees.

After meeting with Mahira Khan, UN chief António Guterres took to Twitter to express his gratitude to Mahira Khan for her extraordinary support in this cause.
