Fatima Surayya Bajia: A Famous Play Writer (Death Anniversary)

Fatima Surayya Bajia, one of the famous play writer, novelist and drama writer was remembered on the 4th death anniversary on February 10, 2020. Fatima was born on September 1, 1930, in Karnatak India before the partition of India.

She had received a number of recognitions for her contributions to the field of literature. She was the older sister of the Zehra Nigah (poet), satirist Anwar Maqsood, and Zubaida Tariq (who is the cooking expert). Fatima did receive many awards at hometown (Pakistan) as well as abroad including Pride of Performance and Hilal-i-Imtiaz.

Fatima knows multiple languages including Arabic, Persian, English, and Urdu literature even though she didn’t have a formal degree and good knowledge of history at home through private tuition.

How Fatima Surayya looked after her siblings

After her parents passed away in Karachi, she took the responsibility of looking after her siblings. Luckily, all of her younger siblings received a good education.

Her brother Anwar Maqsood is a multi-talented artist who has written a ton of plays for theatre while her sister Zehra Nigah is a renowned poetess while Zubaida Tariq is a cooking expert.

Fatima Surayya Bajia died on February 10, 2016. She was only 85 years old after suffering from throat cancer.
