Denzel Washington questions lack of BAFTA Film Award nods in his career
Denzel Washington broke his silence over never being nominated for a BAFTA Film Award
Denzel Washington just reflected on his career milestones as he approaches his 70th birthday, that is, on December 28, 2024.
With the iconic star having ample amount of Oscar nominations as well as Golden Globe nods, he is still rather puzzled on why he hasn’t received any recognition from the BAFTA Film Awards.
As per Screen Daily, Washington is yet to receive a nomination from the platform, just like his Glory co-star, Morgan Freeman.
“Yeah, what’s up with that?” he asked, when this fact was mentioned, adding, “Did I do something or say something bad? But listen — it’s alright. I’m looking to do my best work now, and I have enough goals and wants to reach for.”
With his latest role in the movie, Gladiator II, released on November 15, 2024, talking about his character in Ridley Scott’s historical film, The Equalizer actor said, “I don’t remember if Ridley encouraged it or if it was inherent,”
“But Macrinus (Washington’s character) is willing to do anything to anybody to get what he wants, and there is a freedom in that that lends itself to theatre,” the award-winning actor, told Screen International.
“Ridley knows how to use the best of what an actor brings, and he may have picked up on certain things I was doing. When you have the props, the sets and beautiful costumes, you don’t have to act, I just have to be,” Denzel Washington concluded.
