Cher files compain against Mary Bono over song royalties

Cher has filed a complain against former Republican US Representative Mary Bono, widow of her late musical partner and ex-husband Sonny Bono and his estate in LA federal court for allegedly withholding her share of royalties in Sonny & Cher songs.

On Wednesday, the singer asked the court to block the trust that administrators Sonny Bono’s royalties from terminating her rights from divorce settlement that granted her half of their royalties.

The couple started performing together as Sonny and Cher in 1964. They got married in 1967, and parted ways in 1978. According to the complain, they both had agreed to divide the royalties from songs titled ‘I Got You Babe’ and ‘The Beat Goes On’ equally after their divorce.

Under the Copyright Act, authors can cancel transfers of their copyrights and reclaim them after 35 years in certain circumstances. read more… [2]The News
