Ariana Grande sparked a social media uproar following a question posed during her red carpet interview at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards, held at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California.

The Boca Raton-born singer-actress, who attended the event in a silk yellow 1966 Givenchy Haute Couture gown, was nominated for Best Supporting Actress, Musical or Comedy for her role as Glinda in Wicked.

During an interview with Access Hollywood, Grande revealed that her first call after being offered the role was to her mother, Joan Grande.

However, the tone shifted when the interviewer asked, “Is your grandmother still alive?”

Grande responded by saying, “Yes, my Nonna, she’s 99. Nonna was second,” but the question left fans unsettled.

According to Daily Mail, many criticized the interviewer for lacking tact, with one fan tweeting, “What happened to interviewers doing research before asking questions?” while another wrote, “That is such a risky question. Why would she ask that?”

While some fans defended the reporter’s intent as a “genuine but clumsy inquiry,” others argued that the question was inappropriate for a celebratory red carpet moment.

As per the publication, Marjorie Grande, Ariana’s grandmother, is a prominent figure in the singer’s life and has even been featured on her 2024 album, Eternal Sunshine.

Furthermore, fans noted that the reporter’s lack of awareness about Nonna’s involvement in Ariana’s music added to the insensitivity of the question.

It is worth mentioning that the Golden Globes saw Grande lose in her category to Zoe Saldaña, who starred in Emilia Pérez
