Amanda Seyfried addresses ‘Wicked’ audition process and her reaction to Ariana Grande’s casting
Amanda Seyfried, who began acting at the age of 15, has spoken up, addressing the viral video in which she is singing Popular from Wicked.
The 39-year-old actress spoke to People magazine at the Make It Cute x Babylist Holiday Event in Beverly Hills, California.
At the event, Seyfried opened up about a recently surfaced video that she posted in 2023 on her Instagram in which she can be seen singing Popular song, wearing a silver dress.
Taking aim at the critics, the Mamma Mia! star quipped that it was not “an audition for the role of Glinda” in the movie.
She went on to explain by saying, “I think it was during COVID. I was doing a Lancôme shoot in Long Island City. Elizabeth Stewart [was] my stylist.”
“I was not auditioning for Wicked yet, but I knew it was like coming up. So I was just f****** around really, and I was like, ‘This dress is so Glinda. And Elizabeth was like, ‘Do it.’ And then she posted at some point,” she added.
Seyfried noted that she loves her stylist, adding, “Maybe it would be better if it hadn’t been posted. It was truly just a fun, like, [behind-the-scenes] moment of my Lancôme shoot.”
Moving forward, the Mean Girls star said even though the video was “in jest,” she did later audition for the role of Glinda, which was eventually performed by Ariana Grande.
“I went hard for that, for sure. And it was a very long process. And everything happens the way it’s meant to,” she highlighted.
Seyfried sang praises of how Wicked turned out and concluded by saying, “It’s an extravaganza, which is what she [Grande] does really well. And [my kids] have been playing the soundtrack nonstop. And everything is as it’s meant to be for sure.”
It is pertinent to mention that Amanda Seyfried is getting ready for her new role in the thriller-mystery movie titled The Housemaid, which is based on a 2022 novel of the same name.
