Cara Delevingne takes on unconventional role in Elton John’s music video
Cara Delevinge turns masculine for a new video of Elton John’s 1973 Christmas classic
Cara Delevinge is starring as a reimagined version of Elton John for a new music video.
In the hotly released music video, the actress-model, 32, donned a suit and glasses similar to those worn by the singer, 77, over five decades ago when he featured in the original video.
John has also spoken fondly of the collaboration, saying how working together was long due.
“I saw Cara at Glastonbury last summer, and we talked about how much we’d love to work together if the right idea came up. She’s hilarious to spend time with, we both have quite a self-deprecating sense of humour,” John said of the new video in a statement.
“When someone suggested the idea of her playing me in a riff on the 1973 Step Into Christmas video, I just thought it was the perfect opportunity,” he added, which was also used as a quote in his caption when he shared the video on Instagram.
Back when the track was originally released, it reached number 24 in the UK Top 40 and topped the Billboard Christmas singles chart.
It is pertinent to mention that Delevingne is not the first celebrity to be recruited to play him in a music video. In 2001, Justin Timberlake played the iconic musician in the This Train Don’t Stop There Anymore video.
Timberlake was previously being considered to play John in Rocketman, but the role was eventually handed over to Taron Egerton.
Furthermore, John has also hinted at new music. “You will be getting some more [music],” John said during a guest appearance on CBS’ The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on December 17.
