Adele’s famous song gets singer in legal trouble
Adele lands in hot waters due to her 2015 song
Adele’s famous song Million Years Ago, which she released back in 2015, has gotten the singer in a legal trouble.
As per The Guardian, Million Years Ago is being pulled from streaming services over claims of plagiarism.
The claim made by Brazilian composer Toninho Geraes in the court, arguing that the Rolling In The Deep singer’s album 25’s specific song treads on his 1995 hit Mulheres (Woman).
In the claim, he also sued for lost royalties, $160,000 in moral damages, and songwriting credit on Adele’s track.
As a result, Brazilian judge Victor Torres ruled that the song should be pulled from streaming globally.
Moreover, the judge also ruled that Sony and Universal must cease “immediately and globally, from using, reproducing, editing, distributing or commercializing the song Million Years Ago, by any modality, means, physical or digital support, streaming or sharing platform”.
If someone goes against the verdict, he will face a fine of $8,000 “per act of non-compliance”.
Adele and the labels, on other hand, have not issued any statement.
