Prince Andrew scandal: Who is Chinese spy?

Prince Andrew is facing intense media scrutiny on Saturday after reports his alleged links to a Chinese spy emerged.

In a court ruling on Thursday, it was revealed that the spy, identified only as H6, was banned from Britain on national security grounds because the authorities suspected he was working clandestinely for Beijing to forge close contacts with prominent British figures.

While UK Home Secretary made it clear that the government won’t make any  comments on individual cases, former Home Secretary Suella Braverman has led calls from the Tory camp for the name of H6, the alleged Chinese spy, to be revealed.

Braverman argued that there is a “strong public interest and national security interest” in removing the alleged spy’s anonymity.

She said, “Disclosing the identity of this person will have a deterrent effect on others taking part in similar activities and will also ensure full transparency is afforded to this issue of utmost national security importance.”

According to the court ruling, the spy was a business associate of the scandal-hit Andrew.

The court documents about H6, who had been authorised to act for Andrew to seek investors in China, referred to a 2021 document listing talking points for a call between him and the prince in which he wrote the duke was “in a desperate situation and will grab onto anything”.
